TEENAGE sweethearts enjoyed a special family celebration to mark their diamond wedding.

Knutsford born Chris and Pat Miller, who now live in Northwich, were honoured to receive a card from King Charles.

The couple met when they both worked at a former paper mill in Shaw Heath.

Chris, 80, and Pat, 77, had their first date at Knutsford May Day Festival.

Daughter Rachel Weedall, 56, said: “Mum was 15 and started work straight from school as an office junior.

“Dad was 18 and worked in printing on the stereotype.

“We do a little family trip back to May Day every year to celebrate their first date.”

The couple got married at St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church and held their wedding reception at the Rose and Crown.

Bowling, running and darts were among their hobbies.

Rachel said: “They were both very keen crown green bowlers and played for Cheshire.

“Bowling was a family occasion. We spent our childhood at tournaments at weekends.

“Dad was a cross country runner for Knutsford, played football and was on the darts circuit.”

The couple lived on Cranford Avenue, Manchester Road and Westfield Drive before moving to Ashwood Park retirement village in Wincham, 10 years ago.

Chris retired after working for recycling plastics company Albis for 27 years.

The couple have two grandchildren, Eleanor and Callum, 23.

Rachel and her sister, Kimberley, 62, had a daughter and son five days apart.

The family shared a celebration meal at Hartford Hall.

Rachel said: “Dad was diagnosed with bowel and prostate cancer a couple of years ago. He is better now.

“Their strength and love has seen them grow closer than ever.

“They are absolutely devoted to each other.

“Dad is such a gentleman, looking after mum.

“They still hold hands which is very sweet.

“Me and my sister say they are an inspiration to us as how a true marriage and relationship should work.

“The care and attention they give to each other is wonderful.

“Sixty years is such an achievement.

“They take their vows very seriously.”
